BIOSTATISTICS

This course covers various topics dealing with statistical concepts and importance of statistical analysis in healthcare.  From this course, students should have an idea of how to design a project proposal, decide on sample size, the type of test to be used in a specific situation as well as how to carry out hypothesis testing and interpretation using the basic concepts of statistics. The knowledge acquired by the students from this course will be applied when they analyse data from their experiments, particularly for the final year research project, and in their future research and working career.

BPH3101 Pharmacognosy

It can deliver the knowledge to the students about medicinally important crude drugs from the natural sources, commercial varieties, uses, identification, chemical constituents, substitutes and specific chemical tests and their formulation in the market accompanied with some of the traditional medicinal system and plants used in Malaysia.

1. Describe the basic concept of pharmacognosy, natural products, as medicine and medicinal system in Malaysia.

2. Evaluate the natural products and herbal formulation by quality control.

3. Explain the isolation and identification of the medicinally important and poisonous crude drugs by studying the systematic pharmacognostical study. 

4. Apply the techniques for natural product discovery.

BPH1102 Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry

The course covers the introductory chemistry principles that are applied in pharmaceutical sciences. It encompasses the atomic structure, bonding, functional groups, stereochemsitry, physical and chemical properties of compounds. This content emphasizes on the chemistry of natural products that are related to drugs.


BPH2102-Pharmaceutics I-Liquid and Semi-solid Dosage Forms

Students will be introduced to the practice of dosage form preparations. Emphasis will be placed on liquid and semisolid dosage forms preparation and their quality assurance and quality control tests. This will assist the student in rational decision making on Liquid and semisolid dosage form formulation excipients, methods and their storage and label requirements for industrial manufacturing of liquid and semisolid preparations.
