BMS3034 Systemic Pathology & Histological Technique

This course introduces students to the Pathology concept of various diseases in different systems. It would also help develop expertise in the techniques used for microscopic studies.

BMS Clinical Microbiology

The course covers infections of various body organ systems like respiratory ,reproductive ,musculoskeletal and integumentary ,gasterointestinal ,central nerous system and renal systems. This also covers the pathogenesis, laboratory diagnosis epidemiology and prevention of these infectious diseases.

BMS1063 Human Genetics

This course covers the topics of genetics from general principles to modern-day applications. We will take an in-depth look at some rapidly evolving fields such as human genome project, transposon mutagenesis, epigenetics, histone modification, and approaches that are applied in genetics study. In addition, students will use bioinformatic tools to design primers for practical application.

BMS3013 CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Clinical Biochemistry is the study of biochemical processes occurring in metabolic diseases. This course deals with the biochemical tests used for assessing the function of  different organ systems to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases affecting the human body.

BMS3303 Systemic Pharmacology

The course will provide a more in-depth principles underlying pharmacology of various drugs used in systemic diseases. At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the pharmacology of drugs used in various systemic disorders.
  2. Discuss the pharmacology of anticancer agents used in cancer chemotherapy.
  3. Correlate the effects of adrenergic agonists and antagonists to their receptor selectivity.
  4. Integrate the pharmacotherapy of various systemic diseases to its pathophysiology.

Laboratory Techniques & Instrumentation

There are two main components in this module, namely laboratory techniques and instrumentations. It is important for Biomedical Science students to gain fundamental knowledge, techniques and management skills in the medical laboratory. Hence, students will be learning the standard procedure in the clinical laboratory from the specimen collection, analytical and post-analytical stages. They will be exposed to principles of laboratory safety and medico legal concerns in this module. In addition, students will be learning the principle, maintenance and application of various laboratory instruments and equipment.
