Microbiology

The course on Microbiology covers the role of microorganism as well as parasites in health and disease. It deals with the structure, classification and virulence factor of specific microorganism (bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites) as well as the pathogenesis of infectious and parasitic diseases. It also covers methods for the laboratory diagnosis, epidemiology and prevention of various infectious diseases. The principles of sterilization, disinfection, and microbial physiology will also be covered. The lifelong learning skills of application of aseptic techniques as well as safety measures while dealing with microorganisms will be imparted. Importance of the judicious and ethical use of antibiotics as a pharmacist will be emphasized.

A course in biochemistry and genetics to introduce the concepts of metabolism and the role of genetics in health and disease enables the students to understand the mechanism of action of drugs to practice pharmacy after graduation.

Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry BPH1133

The course covers the knowledge of atomic structure, chemical periodicity, preparation of solution and buffer. The course encompasses preparation, physical properties, assays, storage condition, tests for purity and uses of pharmaceutical inorganic compounds belonging to various classes such as gastrointestinal agents, major intra and extra cellular electrolytes, essential trace ions, topical agents, dental agents, inhalants, inorganic radio pharmaceuticals, expectorants, emetics, antidotes and pharmaceutical aids issues related to the profession. It provides a background for understanding the significance of the other topics that will be covered in the programme.
