BBT3103 Advanced Molecular Biology

This course has been designed to help students build on the fundamentals of molecular biology, especially with respect to eukaryotic and prokaryotic post transcriptional gene regulation. The students will also learn more about gene mutation in cancer cells, molecular aspect of protein modification and transport as well as cell communication. This will also enable them to acquire additional knowledge and laboratory skills required to carry out research work in academia or in the biotechnology industry.

BBT2053 Fermentation Technology

Course synopsis:

The aim of this course is to provide information on  the  history and principle of fermentation as well as microbial metabolism and regulation in the biotechnological processes. Fermentation techniques, processes and conditions in the biotransformation of substrates into biologically important products are central to the course content while bioreactor design, operation and control topics are also included.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  1. Explain the factors affecting the microbial fermentation processes.
  2. Discuss the process parameters and design of various bioreactors used in the fermentation process and its related application.
  3. Perform microbial fermentation process to produce bioproduct.
  4. Examine the data gathered from the experiments conducted in the laboratory.
