BPH1202 Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry

The course covers the knowledge of atomic structure, chemical periodicity, preparation of the solution, and buffer. The course encompasses preparation, physical properties, assays, storage conditions, tests for purity, and uses of pharmaceutical inorganic compounds belonging to various classes such as gastrointestinal agents, major intra and extracellular electrolytes, essential trace ions, topical agents, dental agents, inhalants, inorganic radiopharmaceuticals, expectorants, emetics, antidotes, and pharmaceutical aids issues related to the profession. It provides a background for understanding the significance of the other topics that will be covered in the programme.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)

1. Explain the knowledge and importance of pharmaceutical inorganic chemistry, buffer solution, and general quality control tests.

2. Explain general methods of classification, preparation, physical/chemical properties, assays, storage condition, and uses of important pharmaceutical inorganic compounds.

3. Describe the importance of electrolytes, essential and trace elements in our body, and their pharmaceutical inorganic compounds.

 4. Discuss the radio-active materials and their pharmaceutical preparations
