BFI3323 CREDIT LENDING AND ANALYSIS

Objectives of Subject:

The aims of this course are to enable students to:

1. develop an understanding of the critical elements of credit management (CA1);

2. apply the critical elements learnt in credit management to the context in leading credit grantors (CA2);

3. understand and apply credit risk and knowing how lending facilities are established and controlled (CA3); and

4. understand the statutory and regulatory influences as a controlling approach to credit grantors as well as other bodies that contribute to the management of risk (CA4).

Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to:

1. analyse the issues involved in lending to corporate clients in different industry sectors (CLO1);

2. analyse and interpret financial information in order to inform and justify lending decisions (CLO2);

3. evaluate and discuss the various types of financial and non-financial risk underlying corporate lending relationships (CLO3);

4. analyse the underlying purpose of the loan requirement and evaluate the options available to structure the facilities appropriately (CLO4).

Subject Synopsis:

This course explains and applies the principal decision making and control techniques essential to effective credit management. It also provides essential understanding on the effective day to day management of operations and systems. It describes the key contributors to the effectiveness of the overall management function and works through the knowledge of legislation, regulation and self-regulation, and the role and influence of external agencies. This knowledge will then be used to understand the day to day running of credit analysis and credit operations functions.
