JULY2021_BME3107 – Design of Mechatronics System

The Design of Mechatronics System (DMS) involves a complex engineering problem solving, design and integrating (i.e. systems, components or processes) of core areas in Mechatronics engineering and meeting specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural and societal. MSD is introduced to provide students with an opportunity to integrate engineering technical knowledge and generic skills gained over the past years in the Mechatronics engineering program. Firstly, students will be exposed to the theoretical background of engineering design concept. Secondly, working in a group and supervised by at least one supervisor, the students will be responsible to identify and analyse complex mechatronics related problem through literature surveys and market analysis. Based on the identified problem, students are required to develop a reliable solution to the identified problem by following a systematic engineering design process which includes formulating requirement, product conceptualization, solution conceptualization, embodiment design and detailed design. Throughout the course, the students should be able to effectively communicate their project findings in form of reports, presentations and project specific written test.
