Foundations of Educational Theories, Philosophy and Principles

In this course you will examine the foundations of educational theories, philosophy, and principles to understand the driving purpose of education as we know today. This course will enable you to learn about the setting of curriculum goals, as well as the thinking that determines how and why the goals are set. Students will discuss the inter-relationship between educational theories, principles and philosophy with the forms, functions and roles of education: in schools, educational institutions and society.

This course is a programme designed for newly admitted QIUP students who seek to enhance their English proficiency level to prepare them for a better learning experience at QIUP.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • demonstrate measurable progress towards their spoken and written language abilities in order to better prepare for the academic, social, and professional expectations of Quest International University Perak.
  • enhance the 4 main proficiency skills of listening, pronunciation, reading and writing.

Critical Thinking

Synopsis

The course enables students to engage in reflective and independent thinking. With critical thinking skills, students will be able to deduce consequences from what they know and how to make use of information to solve problems. They will also be able to seek relevant sources of information to keep themselves informed.

Study of Moral and Ethics

Synopsis

The module covers the basic concepts of moral and ethics, definitions and the types of moral values.  This course also discusses theories related to ethics, their critics and basic morals from a religious perspective.  Students will also be guided in discussing  current moral and social problems

Sustainable Development in Malaysia

Synopsis

This course introduces students to sustainability and sustainable development by examining the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, this course will help students understand the environmental, social and economic challenges faced by Malaysia and how to overcome these challenges.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Discuss the relevance of the Sustainable Development Goals to Malaysia.
  • Evaluate current issues and their implications related to the Sustainable Development Goals in terms of local and national contexts.
  • Create a positive social impact project related to selected Sustainable Development Goals.

BCA3114 Communication Research

The knowledge of research project is vital to help students to embark on special key areas in mass communication and to perform quantitative and qualitative research to prevail new findings. The project is to focus on original first-hand research. The researcher is expected to move beyond mere examination of secondary sources and to investigate primary and documentary sources, pursue interviews with relevant bodies and initiate direct contact with relevant individuals and agencies concerned with the topic.
